Abstract [eng] As each performer develops, it is important to analyse other musicians and singers. To delve into the techniques and specifics of their performance, to come up with new ideas. The aim of this master 's thesis research is to analyse and reveal the specifics of Philly Joe Jones’ playing, the structure of solo transcription, and the technical features of performance. The following challenges were raised in writing this work: 1. To familiarize with Philly Joe Jones biography and the evolution of the drum kit; 2. Examine the peculiarities of Jones' manner of playing; 3. Analyse the specifics and techniques of him playing with drum brushes; 4. Deepen and analyse his solo transcription. The following methods were used for the research: historical descriptive, analysis of methodological literature, analysis of visual and audio material. The work consists of an introduction, two chapters, conclusions, bibliography and one appendix. The first chapter describes the biography of Philly Joe Jones and the evolution of the drum kit. The polyrhythms used by him, melodic drumming, the most commonly used solo phrases are analysed. There was talked over the history of the origin of the brushes and Jones' technique of playing them. The second chapter analyses the solo transcription of the drums by Wynton Kelly Trio, Pot Luck. The work was prepared by listening to Jones' recordings with various musicians, examining his improvisations and using his established ideas. Reading, hearing the other musicians’ interviews and thoughts about his personality, the qualities of his professional, distinctive musician are becoming more and more apparent. An interest in history and a deepening into such a personality is an important aspect in order to create distinctive playing and personal musical development.
