When a child develops an oncological disease, the family faces difficulties such as weak social ties, the psycho-emotional state of the family and the crisis in the family relationship, changes in the family's established rhythm of life, redistribution of duties and responsibilities, and often unbearable financial difficulties. The family is experiencing psychological stress, experiencing a crisis that has a significant impact on the psycho-emotional well-being of both the child and his or her family members. The whole family faces negative emotions: anger, fear, shock, fright, anxiety, fear of death, ruining future and present plans, influencing the work and daily lives of family members. The family has a need for psychosocial services provided by social workers: it helps the family to identify and develop its strengths at home, to receive the necessary social services in crisis situations, and ensures timely inter-institutional cooperation and teamwork. Social workers provide information, counseling, mediation and representation services to the family at the family home, provide day social care and respite services; collaborates with other team members and involves relatives, friends, community members, and non-governmental organizations in its activities. However, it is observed that working with the family of a child with oncological disease requires a lot of emotional resources, often experiencing stress that can lead to burnout syndrome. |
