| Abstract [eng] |
The article raises the question where Lithuanian literature could or should be located in the context of centre / periphery interaction. This particular problem of localization seldom becomes the issue of academic investigation as it is overshadowed by the „cursed question“ of the ontological essence of literature, the question of its specific identity. The author of the present paper sees the issue in the complex of its sociocultural, philosophical and metaphysical implications and questions the postmodern anti-essensialistic view that the essence of fictional literature simply doesn’t exist, that literature occurs and subsists as a functional, rather than ontological, notion (Terry Eagleton). The author also draws attention to some anti-cultural tendencies of „advanced“ art, treating them as the consequence of postmodern value relativism, as well as the outcome of dehumanizing global industry and ideology. Resistant to fashionable relativistic theories, the author calls to classical sobriety and, rejecting radical extremities, marks the position of Lithuanian literature as normal and promising sound development. |
