Abstract [eng] This scientific paper analyses the phenomenon of humour in the creative activity of the Lithuanian artist group “Academic Training Group”, or ATG, between 1992 and 1998. The works of APG feature a uniquely characteristic sarcastic, critical outlook on the every-day life of post-soviet culture, as well as on self-representation and formation of identity, while the artistic language of this critical and controversial group is characterised by a unique sense of humour. The aim of this work is to analyse the creative activity of ATG, to reveal the tools employed for comic effect, and to determine the functions humour had in the society of that time To examine the works of ATG, sociological, psychoanalytical, cognitive and GTVH (The General Theory of Verbal Humour) theories have been employed, based on which, methodological research approaches to the analysis of humour in visual arts were constructed. Using the historic-comparative and descriptive methods, the context of the time period in question is provided. In reference to qualitative interviews carried out especially for this scientific work, as well as an analysis of historical sources, a historical reconstruction of ATG is provided. After employing the methodological approaches mentioned above, a detailed analysis of the works of ATG is provided, which reveals the tools employed for comic effect; inadequacy was found to be the basis of comic effect.
