Abstract [eng] This master's thesis investigates how maps of location are decoded through art, as well as the deconstruction of memory and history. Location maps are frequently interpreted as objects of truth. As a result, it is vital to investigate how artists use location maps in their work and how they communicate the information encoded in the maps. The theoretical section explains the structure and functions of location maps. A brief theory of the terms memory and history is offered based on the observations of philosophers and scientists. In addition, the relationship between place maps and memory and history is clarified. In the research section, three works of art are chosen and investigated using the case study technique in search of the categories of cultural, communicative, and political memory defined in the theoretical section. The study concludes with insights and recommendations on how location maps might be understood and read in works of art. The thesis consists of 5 parts: introduction, definition of structure and functions of maps, theoretical part of memory and history, analysis of selected works of art, conclusion and discussion, bibliography. The scope of the work is 41 pages, 18 bibliographic sources, 15 illustrations.
