It was observed that the theme of empowering single mothers and raising awareness in the field of social work is relevant. The purpose of the study was to reveal the empowerment of single mothers, from the perspective of awareness. To achieve the goal of the work, three tasks were set: to define the concept of awareness development in social work; perform an analysis of empowerment strategies; disclosure as a biographical narrative method is used as an empowering strategy for single mothers. In the investigative part of the work, to achieve the research goal and implement the tasks, the qualitative type of research was chosen - the biographical narrative method, and the thematic analysis method was chosen for data processing. Thematic analysis is based on the realist paradigm and is suitable for analyzing new, understudied and socially sensitive topics from a contextualist point of view. Qualitative research is based on an inductive research perspective. The study was conducted with 4 single mothers, asking one main question. The study was conducted in April 2023. The study revealed that awareness training is an effective tool that helps correct inappropriate behavior and reactions of individuals during crisis situations. In order to successfully develop awareness, social workers must include the following basic cognitive functions when working with social service recipients: attentional control, memory, and execution. In social work practice, when developing the awareness of service recipients, social workers must be able to properly complete the following stages: topic selection and interview planning, data collection and interpretation, and drawing conclusions. Empathy and respect, two key factors that help social workers effectively develop awareness among service recipients. Three main levels of empowerment also emerged: individual, group, community empowerment. Research has found that as a biographical narrative, it empowers single mothers. According to the results, biographical stories are an effective tool that empowers single mothers to raise awareness. The biographical narrative helped reveal what level of empowerment is the most effective awareness-raising tool for single mothers. The stories of single mothers revealed a level of group empowerment, which is a means of self-help and encouragement for women. |
