Abstract [eng] The synthesis of folk songs and jazz, also known as folk jazz, has been active in Lithuania for a little over three decades. Although folk jazz has established itself in the culture of Lithuania, this topic hasn‘t been explored thoroughly, it lacks research and scientific literature. In this master‘s thesis, the focus is on examining how jazz composers and musicians use and adapt traditional folk songs in their interpretations and relevant practices. The objective of this work is to understand how and which Lithuanian folk songs are included in jazz arrangements. Factors that influenced the change of folk songs and their synthesis with other musical genres are reviewed, further revealing relevance and importance of the topic. The development of folk jazz from its early stages to the present day is discussed. Lastly, the characteristics of this synthesis are analysed, along with the ethnographic song choices found in the albums of Lithuanian musicians and groups.
