| Abstract [eng] |
A city, throughout its evolution, undergoes various periods of urban structure growth, stagnation, or even economic decline, which either sufficiently reflect the city's identity or lack thereof. The latter case is quite common in medium-sized Lithuanian cities because: initially, they developed naturally; later, they were developed in a planned but compact manner; during the Soviet era, expansively; and later, under the conditions of globalization and urban shrinkage, this manifested in the leveling or even complete loss and uncertainty of the city's identity. Therefore, after analyzing the causes, specifics, and conditions of the transitional period of the loss of significance of a city as a regional center, the aim of this final project is to propose a model for strengthening the city center and to develop an urban concept that addresses the identified problem and contributes to the formation of the city's structural identity. The city of Utena was chosen for the experiment. The work consists of a textual file, graphic material, and two models. The textual file includes: introduction, analytical methodological part, experimental-research part, experimental-design part, conclusions, and appendices (total 83 pages without appendices, 100 illustrations, 2 tables, 29 bibliographic sources). The graphic part consists of 5 vertical panels (70x200 cm) and conceptual (scale 1:1000) and detailed (scale 1:500) models of the area. |
