Abstract [eng] The detective is a selective literary genre which singles out one mysterious moment and takes into account things that at first glance seem just mere trifle – and thus a cigarette-end may be more important than the destiny of a state. In this article unconventional literary means of the detective genre are put to use as a compositional and stylistic instrument in order to refresh run-of-the-mill academic ways and means of expression. Prussia and Russia used different strategies of assimilation policy which yielded different effect in Prussian Lithuania and in Lithuania Proper. Towards the end of the 19th century Prussian Lithuania gained a considerable socio-economic advantage over Lithuania Proper, and this made the assimilation process much more acceptable. On the other hand, in Prussian Lithuania there were little or practically no objective premises for national Lithuanian revival leading to political independence and restoration of Lithuanian statehood. Such situation resulted in various forms of cultural dialogue between the two areas and ethnicities. The socio-psichological aspects of this dialogue often bear the marks of a detective story and still keep under cover a lot of interesting things for a researcher.
