Abstract [eng] N. Kuchareva. Changes in Hemodialysis Patients’ Life Quality and Change Analysis. Nursing Master's Degree thesis. Superviser: Assoc. dr. V. Mockienė, University of Klaipeda: Klaipeda 2012. -. Relevance of the topic: The population of hemodialysis patients is rapidly increasing in Lithuania, as well as around the world, and forms significant part of our society. Every year about 290 new cases of kidney failure are clarified. The increasing number of hemodialysis patients’ increases hospitalization rates, mortality, nursing volumes. The success of dialysis treatment and patient's quality of life depends on harmonious cooperation between medical staff and patient, deep theoretical and practical knowledge. Objective: to assess the quality of hemodialysis patients’ life and analyze the changes. Methods. Experimental research with the target selection (1T, n = 148, 2T, n = 125) was chosen and completed in 2011. Data were collected using the KDQOL - SF ™ questionnaire (Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form). Results. The results show that patients usually described their health as satisfactory (53.4 % and 54.4%). This assessment 6 months later did not change (χ2 = 1.3, LLS = 4, P = 0.865). The study established a correlation between levels of depression, sleep and pain sensation. The assessment of bigger part of daily activities after 6 months was significantly worse statistically - an ordinary activity (table moving, bowling, golf (p = 0.025), walking more than 1.5 km (p = 0.032), walking 0.5 km or less (p = 0.002)). Statistically significant patients who went through hemodialysis process felt more tired during the second survey than they were during the first (p = 0.008). Health indicators did not correlate with gender and marital status; health indicators correlated with education and age though correlation rates were mostly weak and moderate. Hemodialysis patients’ age correlated with the following activities in inverse relationship of moderate strength: climbing stairs and a few floors, walking long distances (r = -0.42 - 0.43, p = 0.01); higher than average energy in the past 4 weeks (R = 0.50, p = 0.01); emphasis on having a lot of energy (E = 042, p = 0.01). Conclusion. The research showed that hemodialysis patients usually describe their health as satisfactory, health indicators are statistically significant (p <0.05) and correlate with education and age.
