Abstract [eng] The history of the Neringa museum in Nida (orig. Das Nehrungsmuseum in Nidden) and the complicatedbackground of its foundation in 1928–1933 described. Museum’s collections: minerals, herbarium andanimals stuff, archaeological excavations artefacts from Nida surroundings, for Curonian spit residents(kuhren) important cultural-historic heritage: traditional clothing, household, agricultural and forestrytools, fishing tackle etc. Sampling and preservation of the Curonian verbal folklore examples (manuscripts),the review of the sources about the Curonian spit. Henry Fuchs (1898–1980) – the founder andthe leader of the Neringa museum. His life, educational activity and participation in the local culturalmovement are presented under socio-political circumstances in the Memel district (Memelgebiet) during3-4th decade of the XX century.
