An overview of situation in global shipbuilding industry is presented in the theoretical part, as well as analysis of Lithuanian shipbuilding and ship repair industry. New challenges concerning shipbuilding anchoring in offshore construction market are discussed, too. An economical and technical performance of JSC ‘Western Construction’ that successfully has integrated in offshore construction market and their further perspectives are shown. In the empirical part of the final thesis involves the description of the main company product – offshore reels, their functions, working conditions, technical specification and manufacturing process. By the experimental observations, the rationing of the reel manufacturing process was provided. An application of LEAN system improvements to main and supporting operations based on research results are presented. Findings are given as former, current and further productivity and duration of reel manufacturing process‘s units. Conclusions and recommendations regarding further improvements of manufacturing process are presented. |
