The Lithuanian view of Jews in the 19th century is familiar to anthropologists as "us and them" - i.e. an attempt to distinguish and classify the members of a different religion, different region, different nationality (ethnicity) as belonging to an outside world. Jews-Litvak's differ from Lithuanian gentiles on almost all "us and them" criteria such as language, "race", religion, customs. |
