Juozas Gudavičius (1926–2008) was a Professor, ballet master, creator and art director of most national, schoolchildren’ and Gaudeamus festivals. He was one of the founders of Klaipėda University Art Academy Dance Department and was the head of the Department until 1990. He was born in Martyniškis (Ukmergė District) on 15 December 1926. In 1949 he was graduated at Vilnius Gymnasium, and in 1961 – at Faculty of Ballet Masters at Moscow A. Lunacharsky Institute for Theatre Arts. From 1946 to 1967 he periodically was a dancer and ballet master of the State Song and Dance Ensemble Lietuva. From 1950 to 1957 he was the leader of students’ Song and Dance Group at Vilnius University. From 1961 to 1969 he was lecturer at Čiurlionis Art School in Vilnius. Later on he worked as Senior ballet master at Kaunas Musical Theatre and was the head of Choreography Department at Vilnius Pedagogical Institute. In the year 1971 all the activities of this Department were transferred to Klaipėda, and J. Gudavičius held the position of the Head of Choreography Department of Klaipėda Faculties until 1990. From 1995 he was a Professor of the Faculty of Arts at Klaipėda University. J. Gudavičius was the Senior ballet master and Art director of many national Song Festivals and Baltic States Students’ Festivals Gaudeamus. He was the Art director of Vėtrungė, student ensemble of Lithuanian State Conservatoire Klaipėda Faculties Choreography Department, for many years. [...]. |
