Abstract [eng] Tapered cross-section elements are appreciated as higly efficient and cost-effective, because they represent the diagram of the moments, the web of tappered member is increased where the design moments are highest. Portal frames designed of thin-walled cross-section are mostly used because of their economical benefit. Due to the high width to thickness ratio class 4 cross-section elements are limited by local buckling resistance, which occurs before the attaintment of yeld stresses. Class 4 cross-sections analytical calculations are made by LST EN 1993-1-5:2007, appliying appropriate equivalent cross section or equivalent length. In this paper calculations were made by varying the width and the height of tapered members, which provides possibility to analyze calculation methods that are written in Eurocode. There also is a comparisson of the analytical test results with numerical modeling results. Numerical modeling was made by finite element structural analysis software SOFiSTiK AG.
