The aim of research is to evaluate the influence of intervertebral differential dynamic therapy and stretching exercises on patients with a herniated disc of the lumbar spine. The tasks of research are: 1. To evaluate the influence of IDD therapy and stretching exercises on the pain intensity of lumbar spine. 2. To determine the influence of IDD therapy and stretching exercises on the functional condition of the lumbar spine. 3. To compare the influence of IDD therapy and stretching exercises on the pain intensity and functional condition of the lumbar spine. Methods. 44 patients with a herniated disc of the lumbar spine took part in this research (L4-L5 or L5- S1). They were divided into two groups, 22 persons each, who were applied with IDD therapy and stretching exercises in the hall of kinesitherapy. Intensity of pain, lumbar-spine mobility, functional capacity of lumbar spine and index of functional infirmity with a herniated disc of the lumbar spine were evaluated in the beginning and in the end of research. Results. Intensity of pain and functional infirmity decreased in both groups in the end of research; lumbar-spine mobility and functional lumbar spine capacity increased (p < 0,05). There was a greater decrease of pain intensity after 5 procedures in IDD therapy group comparing with stretching exercises in the hall (p < 0,05). Lumbar-spine mobility and functional capacity of lumbar spine significantly increased applying procedures of stretching exercises in the hall after the full treatment in group; index of infirmity decreased (p < 0,05). Conclusions. 1. Pain intensity of the lumbar spine was decreased more effectively by applying intervertebral differential dynamic therapy. Statistically relevant difference (p < 0,05) was determined in the beginning of treatment within a short space of time. Stretching exercises of lumbar spine in the hall of kinesitherapy had a positive effect decreasing the pain of the lumbar spine (p < 0,05) in the end of research. 2. The influence of IDD therapy and stretching exercises on patients with a herniated disc of the lumbar spine was determined, lumbar-spine mobility increased in both research groups after 10 procedures, functional capacity improved and index of infirmity decreased (p < 0,05). 3. Stretching exercises (p < 0,05) more effectively reduced the index of infirmity, increased the lumbar-spine mobility and functional capacity of lumbar spine, comparing with applied IDD therapy. . |
