Abstract [eng] |
The role of the nurse in the management of patients with malignant melanoma is particularly important due to the rapid development and complexity of treatments. However, the literature specifically addressing this role is limited, so the aim of this scoping review was to comprehensively evaluate the nurse’s role in this patient care group, considering the context of new treatment approaches. The aim of the study – to analyze empirical research on the role of the nurse in the management of patients with malignant melanoma. Subjects and sample – a comprehensive literature search was conducted in three databases: PubMed, Springer and Wiley Online Library. The search focuses on studies that analyse nurses’ roles, interventions and innovations in the management of malignant melanoma, particularly in the context of the treatments. The search was conducted by a single reseacher and limited to full-text, peerreviewed articles in English, published between 2018 and 2024. Methods – the literature screening process was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, using the 2020 flow diagram. The quality of the articles was assessed by two independant reviewers who evaluated the studies based on predefined criteria. The evaluations were carried out manually to maintain the accuracy of the process and reduce the risk of bias. Results – seven eligible studies met the requirements for inclusion. The treatments identified were grouped into to main categories: immunotherapy and chemotherapy. The nurses’ consultations were grouped into two main categories: therapeutic interventions and patient counselling. Conclusions – the analysis revealed that the most commonly studied treatment methods are adjuvant therapy, targeted therapy and checkpoint inhibitors, while adaptive cell therapy and chemotherapy are less frequently used. Nurses play an important role in counselling patients with malignant melanoma by providing information on treatment options, their objectives and side effects. The value of their consultations is significant for both the healthcare team and the patients. |
