The article deals with the ethnic relations in Klaipeda region in 19-20th centuries. In the history of Klaipeda region multiculturalism is evident, especially, in the Lithuanian schools that were operating from 16th to 19th centuries. It was an outcome of reformation's rule regarding the usage of mother tongue and writing. Based on the documents found in Berlin and Olsztyn archives, the article analyses the Klaipeda region statistics. The analyzed statistics includes student quantity and their ethnic composition in the end of 19th century, ethnic conflicts in Klaipeda region schools between World War I and World War II, and change of Lithuanian surnames to German forms of the names in the beginning of the 20th century. |
