The article, which is based on archival materials, presents and analyses educational activities of Lithuanian catholic gymnasia from 1918 to 1940 in the aspects of the contents of education and extracurricular activities. The role of catholic gymnasia in the process of formation of educational contents at the beginning of Lithuanian Independence is emphasized and qualitative and quantitative extent of subjects, priority disciplines and supplementary subjects are discussed. The main spheres of extracurricular education are also discussed: subject clubs, religious organizations and their activities, forms and aims of formation of self expression of students. Fundamental trends and values of extracurricular educational activities of catholic gymnasia are distinguished. |
