Abstract [eng] Patient awareness is one of the most significant processes making a huge impact on treatment and nursing of patients. To ensure adequate patient awareness, good knowledge of their expectations related to a health care establishment is required. Today, a number of laparoscopic surgery interventions is continuously growing. Perioperative awareness expectations in post-laparoscopy patients are continuously changing and linked to psycho-emotional condition, age, gender, education level, employment and marital status. Lack of patient awareness result in a number of problems such as fear, anxiety and uncertainty. To deal with such problems, nurses should know about the expectations of the hospitalized patients. Research purpose. To analyses awareness expectations in post-laparoscopic surgery patients. Research methods. A quantitative test has been made. The following instruments were used: two standardized parallel questionnaires (Knowledge Expectations of Hospital patient, KEhp 2.0 and Received Knowledge of Hospital Patient, RKhp 2.0; copyright held by Prof. H. Leino-Kilpi et al.) for determining patient expectations, their satisfaction and changes in patients’ anxiety / stress after satisfying such expectations. 369 respondents were involved. A descriptive data analysis was performed by using statistic software package SPSS 17.0 for Windows. The study was conducted while respecting ethical principles. Research results. Awareness analysis showed that overall awareness index was 20,54±2,94 out of 24 possible scores; average score of almost all fields except for social, was above 3 scores out of 4 possible scores and this shows quite large awareness needs at the beginning of hospitalization. Comparison of evaluation scores of individual fields shows the highest needs for awareness related to biological - physiological and functional needs, whereas social needs were of the least importance. Evaluation of psycho-emotional condition of patients shows that the patients experience moderate stress / anxiety on the arrival to a hospital and after completion of hospitalization the patients experience considerably less stress or anxiety. When, upon leaving a hospital, a patient is asked about whether his (her) awareness expectations have been satisfied, it was found out that almost all patients (99,5 %) are satisfied with the level of awareness. Conclusion. Patient expectations are related to biological-physiological functional issues. Upon completion of in-patient treatment, the patient expectations are satisfied.
