Dental tourism to Turkey is becoming increasingly popular among Lithuanian patients due to lower costs and quick access to treatment. However, this practice poses significant clinical and legal challenges. This review examines the legal protection of Lithuanian patients receiving dental treatment in Turkey, integrating clinical evidence with the legal frameworks of the EU, Lithuania, and Turkey. The literature indicates an increased risk of late dental complications associated with invasive aesthetic procedures, which often manifest themselves after patients return to Lithuania. In legal terms, although EU international private law instruments provide theoretical guarantees for consumer protection, their practical application in cases involving third countries remains limited. Jurisdictional difficulties, differences in liability standards, and obstacles to enforcing court decisions significantly weaken patient protection. The review concludes that current legal mechanisms do not ensure effective compensation and therefore emphasizes the need to improve informed consent and patient awareness in cross-border dental tourism. |
