The aim of this research is to reveal the attitudes of educators, senior students of progymnasiums and junior studentsof gymnasiums to homeworks and links with their school satisfaction and academic achievements. 99 educators and 378 students of 7 – 10 forms (200 girls and 178 boys) from two progymnasiums and two gymnasiums of town N took part in the research. The questionnaire, made by the author of this thesis, was used to establish the educators‘ attitudes to homeworks. The questionnaire was founded on basis of Children's Attitude to Homework Questionnaire. Educators were asked 9 questions. Students attitudes to homeworks were measured by using Children's Attitude to Homework Questionnaire (Akioka & Gilmore, 2013), which was enriched by the author of this thesis. To measure school satisfaction School Satisfaction subscale (Huebner, 1994) was used. 3 open questions were given to students to evaluate their academic achievements, in their answers they had to point out their Lithuanian, Mathematics and total average mark. Students were given questions about their sociodemographic facts. Students were asked to fullfil the questionnaire, made of 35 questions. The result of research showed that there are important differences among educators and students‘ attitudes to the aims and advantages of homeworks and one disadvantage „It takes much time“. Significant differences were established among the attitudes toward homeworks of senior progymnasium students and junior gymnasium students, girls and boys. Parental control in homeworks is more often experienced by senior progymnasium students and boys, senior progymnasium students and boys more often object to homeworks, junior gymnasium students and boys more often mention about difficulties and advantages of homeworks. Junior gymnasium students are more satisfied with school than senior progymnasium students. Girls are more satisfied with school than boys. Academic achievements of junior gymnasium students are higher than senior progymnasium students. Academic achievements of girls are higher than boys. Attitudes to homeworks and academic achievements significantly predicted students satisfaction with school. Keywords: Attitudes toward homework, satisfaction with school, academic achievements. |
