Abstract [eng] The object of this Master‘s thesis is the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State in the 20th century. The aim of this Master‘s thesis is to analyse the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / state in the 20th century, its origins, evolution and implementation in three different periods of the 20th century in Lithuania: (until the First World War, during interwar and during Soviet Union occupation). This research work has four tasks of analysis: 1) to examine possible origins of the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State and reveal its genesis and background until 1923 year; 2) to perform analysis of the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State, its evolution and implemention in interwar period (between 1923 and 1940 year); 3) to examine marinistic idelogemes and mental images in Lithuania‘s ideological discourse during Soviet Union occupation (1945 – 1990) and reveal their content (based on press analysis); 4) to perform analysis of continuation of the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State in the Lithuanian diaspora based on Canadian Lithuanian newspaper ,,Lietuvos pajūris‘‘ (,,Lithuanian coast‘‘). The Masters‘s thesis of ,,The Concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation in the 20th century: origins, evolution and implementation‘‘ is composed of four sections. The first section is based on examination of origins of the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State. The second section is based on analysis of the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State in interwar period. The third section is based on analysis of marinistic ideologemes and mental images in Soviet Lithuanian press. The fourth section is based on analysis of Canadian Lithuanian newspaper ,,Lietuvos pajūris‘‘ (,,Lithuanian coast‘‘). Research‘s methodology is based on data (especially press) analysis, synthesis, narrative methods, also critical historiographical analysis and critical analysis of unpublished archival sources, content analysis. The chronological limits of this research work are approximately between 1914 and 1990 years. The results of this research work reveals that the concept of Lithuania as a Maritime Nation / State in the 20th century should be seen not as one evolving idea, but more like three different ideas in three different Lithuanian historical periods (until the First World War, during interwar period, during Soviet occupation). The differences of these ideas were determined by (geo)political, economical, social and ideological circumstances.
