The aim of this research was to investigate circumstances of The Mysz and Szkłów Branch of the Chodkiewicz Family formation. For this aim to reach was invoke three tasks: 1) to check out, what reasons determined the Mysz and Szkłów branch of the Chodkiewicz family members consolidation in region of Samogitia; 2) to analyse what was input to interaction with Samogitia of this family members; 3) to investigate circumstances of formation the Mysz and Szkłów Branch of the Chodkiewicz family. Chodkiewicz family came to Samogitia area together with Aleksander Chodkiewicz and his circle of communication. Influence of being a part of queen’s Bona’s political group gave him chance to get first land in this region. Making policy of region, Bona Sforca many ways tried to remove dominance of Kieżgajłowie family and used her supporters for occupying land’s keeper’s positions for her aims. By this way, Aleksander got chance to begin making relationships with local society and made opportunity for his family to begin formation of land management in Samogitia. Aleksander was first person in his family, who decided to begin integration into this region by making relationships with famous families of local communities. His son Hieronim marriage with local family of Szemet, and making relationships with other families, extended Chodkiewicz family lands over all region of Samogitia. By the way, Aleksander Chodkiewicz made opportunities of future career for his son, making contacts with grand duke of Prussia, Albrecht Hohenzollern. Communication and early learning in Albercht’s manor affected few of Chodkiewicz family members attitude to belief. According this, influence of Protestantism spread out and touched most noble families in Samogitia region. Hieronim Chodkiewicz was originator of Mysz and Szkłów branch of the Chodkiewicz family. In the year of 1555, from emperor’s Charles V hands he got Mysz and Szkłów earl title for his family. There were some reasons of getting this title. At first, it was highlighting differences between Aleksander’s and his son’s attitude to belief, that separated Hieronim family from his brothers. By the way huge influence for this came from king’s, like Cotholic, and his manson’s officers view to other beliefs. Moreover, relations with Albrecht Hohenzollern over studies period got him chance travel over Holy Roman Empire’s manors and so prepare for his career and state service in Grand Duchy of Lithuania. So early relations with emperor, could be reason to get earl title in future. Don’t need forget and king’s Sigismund Augustus influence for Hieronim career and getting to Charles V manor in the year of 1555. |
