Abstract [eng] The aim of the study - to investigate the effect of acupressure on patients with ischemic stroke. Research tasks: 1. To investigate the quality of life, functional independence of patients with ischemic stroke, the amplitude and coordination of left arm movements, blood pressure and heart rate before acupressure in the control and study groups. 2. To investigate the quality of life, functional independence of patients with ischemic stroke, amplitudes and coordination of left arm movements, blood pressure and heart rate after acupressure in control and study groups. 3. To substantiate the usefulness of acupressure as a complementary medicine method in patients with ischemic stroke. Methodology of investigation. A quantitative study was conducted. Used Instruments: Questionnaire (Modified SF-36 questionnaire and FNT, Barthel, MMSE, Coordination test assessments, EQS and heart rate measurements). Statistical data processing (SPSS 17.0 and MS Excel 2007) and content analysis methods were used. The sample consisted of: 60 patients with ischemic stroke (left arm hemiparesis), of which 28 were women (46.7%) and 32 men (53.3%). The research was carried out in the Department of Rehabilitation of Public Institution Šiauliai Republican Hospital, Woman and Child Clinic, in accordance with ethical principles. Research results. The positive effect of acupressure on the quality of life, functional independence, left hand motion amplitudes and coordination, blood pressure and heart rate of patients with ischemic stroke has been clarified. Evaluating the quality of life before and after acupressure procedures in occupational therapy, improvement was observed not only on the physical level, but also on the psycho-emotional state and social function. Conclusion. Acupressure has a positive effect on patients with ischemic stroke. It is recommended to use acupressure therapy to improve arm functions of patients with ischemic stroke at the rehabilitation stage.
