Abstract [eng] Work-related stress remains a perpetually relevant issue in a variety of activities both on the individual and organizational levels, thus the health care system, including the operating-room nurses, is no exception. Stressful situations are often encountered throughout the occupational activities of operating-room nurses. Work-related stress experienced by the operating-room nurses and the impact it has on health is a very important and relevant issue studied in order to improve the quality of work done in the operating-room as well as seeking for the set goals within the occupational activities of operating-room nurses. Stress experienced by an employee not only affects health on the individual level, but it also has an impact on the quality of work leading to further consequences progressing into the occupational burnout syndrome. Objective of the research. To assess stress experienced by operating-room nurses and correlations thereof to subjective health assessment. Research method. A qualitative study has been conducted. Data collection method: semi-structured individual interview. The research data was collected in September 2019 in the Surgery – Anesthesiology Unit. Eight informants participated in the study. The informants were selected by way of targeted screening. Upon consent of the respondents, the interview data was recorded by using a recorder in order to prevent any misrepresentations of the information provided by the subjects or the style of their speech. The interviews took 30 min. on average. All interviews recorded on the recorder were transcribed into text. Key words were determined throughout the text and arranged into sub-topics and topics. Research results. The results of the research revealed occurrence of experienced stress and correlations thereof to deterioration of health: experience of stress and tension at work triggers various health problems. Stress and tension often experienced at work have a negative impact on their well-being, health, and relations to the loved ones, interfere with optimum performance of their work-related duties. The results of the research revealed that the informants were well aware that stress had a major negative impact on work: the quality thereof, motivation to engage in it, manifestations of a bad mood, various negative emotions. Conclusion. The results of the research revealed that occupational stress affected and had a negative impact on the health of operating-room nurses.
