Abstract [eng] The coastline of Lithuania is economically very important for port and tourism development. However, due to high physical load and increasing climate change, Lithuanian beaches becoming more and more eroded. The research methods used to assess the extent of the damage and the impact of various processes are outdated. Thus, the paper takes into account the methods used for shore researches, the feasibility of integrating them into a common framework, and evaluates possible alternatives for improving the quality of coastal researches and data accuracy. Therefore, in the final results, long-term and short-term morphodynamics of the Lithuanian coastline were evaluated using transverse coastal profiling method and applying 3D laser scanning system. The research methodology was compared with each other, taking into account criteria such as time consumption, number of people, accuracy and the amount of final data, coverage and resolution. Wider applicability of the methods for tasks requiring accurate calculations was also based on calculations and other researchers works. Eventually the application of high level of detailed data obtained by using a 3D laser terrestrial scanning system, can significantly improve the quality of offshore engineering and research.
