Abstract [eng] The paper analyzes linguistic representation of the world of smell in the works of 9 witers of the 20th century: Baltušis, Boruta, Ivanauskaitė, Mykolaitis-Putinas, Šaltenis, Šatrijos Ragana, Šeinius, Škėma, Žemaitė. The method of semantic and qualitative analysis of semantic units was applied. It was found that the thematic network of smell, compared with the thematic networks of sound and colour, was smallest in all texts and made up 0 %-7 %. The thematic network of odors varied in volume and significance in the texts under analysis, e.g., such network was not found in Boruta’s novel Baltaragio malūnas (The Windmill of Baltaragis). Odors were described using very rich linguistic means in Šatrijos Ragana‘s story and the novels of Škėma, Baltušis, Mykolaitis-Putinas and Ivanauskaitė. Odours were linked to the features of the character or environment. The authors provided a great variety of smell emitters (smell sources), precisely conveyed subtle sub-odours. The paradigms of the smell of nature and a human were most significant, of fauna - least. The sweetest odour was that of flowers, springtime and summertime. Human body odour was not described in the works of Žemaitė and Šatrijos Ragana. Words used to describe the odour of femininity and eroticism carried a strong positive connotation in the texts under analysis. The most unpleasant odour was that of dirt, drunkenness, they also arosed a negative physiological effect.
