The article presents a review of research into foreign languages carried out in Lithuania during the last century. The situation of learning English language in Europe is described with reference to the study of teaching languages at schools, which was made by the European Commission’s education information network, Eurydice (2008). In the article, the possibilities of using reading while learning English as a foreign language (EFL) are presented based on the analysis of Lithuanian and international scholars’ scientific works. The article reviews the results of the pilot research carried out in different types of Lithuanian schools in 2009. The research tends to reveal 14–16 year old students’ point of view towards learning English and reading. |
