The article deals with the J. Naujalis' "Lithuanian church book of chants" from the point of view of the end of the XIX th century - the beginning of the XX th century religious and national inheritance. J. Naujalis harmonized and included the most widely spread liturgical chants compulsory Latin antiphon and hymns as well as other ritual chants. Including the oldest chants sung in Lithuania into the book, J. Naujalis summed up the convergence of Lithuanian, Polish and Western European liturgical chants singing traditions. This convergence is considered to be general experience of christian culture. Arguments are presented to show the positiveness of this phenomenon. |
