Abstract [eng] The growing incidence of obesity and related chronic diseases encourages the search for the most appropriate solutions for adults to reduce these problems. Research conducted in Lithuania highlights the problems of the working age population related to the deteriorating nutritional status and insufficient physical activity. The novelty of the research is demonstrated by the search for the solutions for the education of the basics of healthy nutrition needed to improve the health of the adult population. The aim of the research is to reveal the principles and methods of the education of the basics of healthy nutrition to improve the health of the adult population. The object of the research is the education of healthy nutrition. The subject of the study is adult Lithuanian residents aged 18-65 years. The education of healthy nutrition among the adult population is related to self-directed / informal learning, which is perceived as continuous deepening of knowledge, which takes place naturally every day. The age criterion is important because of the change in nutrition habits and lifestyle itself, when the available healthy nutrition experiences are transferred from the family to other age groups of the adults. There were no significant statistical differences in the adult population between age and current healthy nutrition habits or their education. Health problems and related medical recommendations are the main reasons that can lead to a radical change in nutrition habits. When assessing the interrelation between healthy nutrition education and the wellness of the population, a statistically significant relationship was found with the need for physical activity. This suggests that promoting physical activity in the adult population awakens the need for healthy nutrition and vice versa, a motivated for healthy nutrition adult will be inclined to change their daily habits related to physical activity.
