Taking into account the complex changes of the enviroment as well as the needs of modern consumers, libraries are in need of specialists, who can can look at a situation from a different perspective, correctly determine the priorities of a strategic practice, analise, evaluate and implement various innovations and programs. By forming a hypothesis that the systems of a librarians qualification improvement are not consistent or focused on proffesional progress, so the improvement of competencies can be carried out in other learning spaces. Here we find a scientific problem: which competencies are essential for a librarian‘s practice and how could they be improved? Object of this research: competencies of a librarian ant the possibilities of their improvement. Aim of this work: to theoretically analise and empirically justify competencies that are essential for librarian‘s work and the possibilities of improving them. Tasks: 1. Analise the practice, its peculiarities and functions of a librarian. 2. Analise competencies, that are essential for librarian‘s practice and its improvement possibilities. 3. Create a hypothetical model on how to improve the competencies of a librarian. 4. Investigate the view of librarians from public library of Šilalė district municipality on competencies that are essential for a librarians practice and the possibilities of improving them. 5. Prepare and approve the model on how to improve the competencies of a librarian by employing an experimental method. Methods: analysis of scientific literature in order to analise the practice, peculiarities and function of a librarian; modeling in order to estimate the competencies of a librarian and the possibilities of improving them. This work employed the methodic provisions of a multi-dimensional professionalisation analysis (Leclercg, 2004, cit. Jatkauskienės, 2013). After doing the research it was established that professional competencies are essential for every librarian‘s practice, the competencies of practice, communication, personal and educational as well as management, which can be improved in a formal, informal or spontaneous environment. |
