Purpose of this thesis is to investigate perspective hydrogen technologies adaptation for marine transport in regards of International Maritime Organization environmental protection standards, energy efficiency and operational economy. The current situation regarding the application of hydrogen technologies for marine transport is analyzed on the basis of technological advance in land transport and the assessment of global hydrogen infrastructure. The rationality of the application of hydrogen technologies for marine transport has been evaluated in accordance with environmental requirements of MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI convention. Based on various scientific sources, the energy efficiency of hydrogen technologies has been compared. A study was carried out by applying hydrogen fuel cell technology to a general cargo ship by presenting concept fuel cell technology integration solution to a ship‘s power plant. The cost-effectiveness of the vessel‘s operation on hydrogen fuel using fuel cell technology was investigated and as a result emissions were compared with traditional ship‘s power plant. |
