| Abstract [eng] |
Subject of the thesis - Due to insufficient skills, unwillingness to appear incompetent, young specialists make a number of mistakes, which often affect the patient's safety. Research results from around the world have shown that students, during the practical portion of the nursing study programme, very often harm patient safety due to lack of knowledge. The aim of the research is to determine the knowledge, outlook and expectations of nursing students related to patient safety. Methodology of investigation: a quantitative study was performed. An anonymous questionnaire survey was chosen for the research. The obtained data were analyzed using the statistical data analysis package “SPSS 23.0. for Word ”. The study involved 242 nursing students, aged 19 to 58 years. The research was conducted in accordance with ethical principles. Conclusions: nursing students have sufficient knowledge of patient safety, but are skeptical of their own ability to influence it. Nursing students recognize that patient safety is very important to them, but mistakes sometimes occur in medical work and are made by most health care professionals. The highest expectations of nursing students in terms of patient safety in the future workplace are the expectation of openness and honesty in acknowledging their own mistakes, as well as the responsibilities of nurses and physicians to identify and address patient safety risks and the need for managers’ focus on patient safety. Most relevant are students’ knowledge of professional errors and patient safety with opportunities to influence patient safety, opportunities to affect patient safety with an approach to safety in the healthcare system, and a person’s own approach to patient safety with expectations of patient safety in the future workplace. |
