Abstract [eng] Emergency medicine staff or paramedics, especially those who provide emergency medical services, are at higher risk in facing physical and psychological stress. Emergency rooms, even an ambulance, can be a challenge due to the frequent instability of daily work when dealing with various difficult situations. This gave rise for many researchers to examine work-related psychological disorders such as burn-out or post-traumatic stress disorder. The aim of the research – to analyse the connection between emergency medicine specialist’s burnout and quality of life. Methodology of the research. Quantitative research was carried out by the use of an assessment of quality of life by J.E. Ware, C. D. Sherbourne (1992) (SF-36 Questionnaire) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) by C. Maslach and S. E. Jackson (1986) was used to evaluate the burn-out syndrome, as well as socio-demographic questions created by the author of the work. Statistical and descriptive data analysis (SPSS 20 for Windows) was used for data analysis. 170 respondents took part in the research. The research was carried out in accordance with ethical principles. Result of the research. Long-term stress, high work rate, as one of the key functional impairments, were accessed in the research. Emergency medicine staff evaluated their work as follows: the most frequent stress experienced as high work rate, then heavy physical labor, workload and overtime. Noted that physical challenges were the most frequent stress factors such as tense, heavy lifting and carrying under the difficult working conditions. Personnel of emergency medical treatment report bigger problems with physical health such as greater muscle ache, bone injuries. Conclusion. Further cooperation between emergency room doctors and nurses is useful, as medical experts of different professions are brought together in the work concerning emergency medical system. It is noted that staff burn-out is directly linked with the quality of health care. The consequence of emergency medicine staff consist of weak work performance, negative effects on family, great disappointment. Solutions to social assistance and problems are used for the management of burn-out and contribute to the maintenance of staff.
