Research objective – to analyse the psycho-emotional state of women, having breast cancer, related to surgical intervention. Research methodology. During the research, psycho-emotional state of women was analysed referring to the scales of HAM-A and NVVT Distress thermometer. The method of quantitative research was applied for the realization of the objective. The sample was comprised of 154 women having breast cancer and waiting for surgical treatment. The research was performed in May – November of the year 2020 in health care institutions of Kaunas and Klaipėda cities. Statistical data analysis was performed using SPSS/w 24.0 and MS Excel 2016 computer program. The research was performed following ethical principles. Research results. During the surgical interventions, more than half of the women (58.2 per cent), participating in the research, have a small level of distress, and the rest part – average or strong. The level of anxiety is not influenced by the age of the women, education, period of ailment or the stages of breast cancer (p>0.05), and the level of distress is not influenced by the education of the women, period of ailment or stages of breast cancer (p>0.05). It was ascertained that the older the women are, the smaller level of distress they have, and the longer is the period from the diagnosis of breast cancer. A bigger level of distress is experienced by those women who have the ablation of the whole breast with reconstruction appointed than those who need only partial breast ablation or the ablation of the whole breast without reconstruction. Adequately, average or high anxiety level is more often expressed in those women who have the ablation of the whole breast with reconstruction appointed. Conclusion. High anxiety level is experienced by those women who have the ablation of the whole breast with reconstruction appointed than those who need only partial breast ablation or the ablation of the whole breast without reconstruction. |
