This thesis analyzes various Pasvalys region theatre artists and their work. It describes the very beginnings of theatre culture in Lithuania brought upon by the efforts of certain "litvomanai" groups which hailed from Joniškėlis, a town in the municipal area of Pasvalys. Among the most notable "litvomanai" figures are G. Petkevičaitė-Bitė, P. Višinskis, P. Avižonis, Žemaitė, G. Lansdbergis-Žemkalnis and others. Also highlighted is the conception of amateur theatre activity in Vilnius as well as the Vileišis brothers' contributions to Lithuanian theatre culture. This includes a synopsis on the development of theatre culture in Pasvalys from 1920 to 2020. The thesis also highlights the stage culture of Petras Vileišis gymnasium and its theatre work in Pasvalys, including the analysis of the Kutkauskas family's work, as well as the commemoration of various theatre figures in historic performances. Finally, three Pasvalys theatres, the work of which garnered fame in Lithuanian and overseas amateur theatre culture from 2000 to 2020, are reviewed. |
