Abstract [eng] The Main Aim of Thesis – to discuss the legal regulation of GMOs in Lithuania and the European Union and assess the level of public awareness in the field of GMOs. Research objectives: 1) To analyze the specifics of the concept of GMOs, discussing the possibilities and risks of using GMOs. 2) To carry out an analysis of GMOs legislation of the Republic of Lithuania. 3) To review the legal regulation of GMOs in the European Union. 4) Identify problematic aspects of GMO management. 5) To undertake the survey and produce results and generalizations of the research and give proposals. Based on the scientific literature, the first chapter discusses the concept of GMOs and reveals the possibilities and risks of using GMOs. The second chapter of this work provides an overview of the main legislation on GMOs through the legislative analysis method and identifies the problematic aspects of GMO management. The third chapter presents the organizational part and methodology of master‘s thesis and discusses whether the identified problems in the management of GMOs actually exist. The last chapter provides conclusions, suggestions, references, summary in Lithuanian and English, annexes and the declaration of honour. The thesis contains 11 pictures, 6 annexes, and 72 references. Scope of work: 66 pages. According to the research, the public awareness in the field of GMOs is indeed a real problem, as the results of the study showed that the level of public awareness in the field of GMOs is not high and the public is not sufficiently informed. The answers collected during the study confirm that there is a lack of knowledge about GMOs. The majority of respondents are convinced that GMOs are harmful to both human health and the environment. It has been learned that the public has a negative opinion about GMOs.
