Abstract [eng] Piano performance has been developed over hundreds of years so that performers based on traditional Western aesthetics are beginning on the same page in their approach to the interpretation of traditional repertoire. How should we break through this stagnation? This thesis analyzed the composer Lei Liang's compositional aesthetics and the oriental elements in his work “Garden Eight” to present further possibilities for interpreting the composition. Followed by interviews with the pianist Ricardo Descalzo and the composer himself to further demonstrate and investigate the new perspective for interpretation through the understanding of oriental elements, and finally to reveal the reflection of oriental elements on the art of piano performance.
