Concert bands, unlike chamber or string orchestras, do not have strict regulation in their composition, but are distinguished by various types that were formed according to the existing historical circumstances, both in the development of instruments and geopolitical ones. In Lithuania, taking into account the ideological attitudes of socrealism, concert bands (both professional and amateur) did not occupy a specialized place but performed the repertoire of various types of orchestras as needed. In the XXI century, both professional and amateur Lithuanian concert bands are changing and striving for a new quality. One of the most striking examples of this is the concert band "Trimitas", the path of which, that began as an amateur band, has already continued in the ranks of professional orchestras, although often performing the genres of estradic music, but on the 7th September 2022 this orchestra became a representative, the only one in Lithuania – the Lithuanian Symphony Wind Orchestra. The new vision of this orchestra - being an orchestra performing professional contemporary music, aligning itself with world-famous professional wind orchestras - was formed deliberately, so that for several years now the repertoire has been selected correspondingly, professional music concert programs are compiled, and cooperation with bright artists has been held. These changes not only lead to the search for a new repertoire, but also inspire the emergence of new Lithuanian musical opuses. Young performers are being attracted to the orchestra and a knowledgeable audience has been invited to the concert halls. |
