Abstract [eng] The topic of Master thesis is current, because higher education is strategically important sector to Lithuania. Processes of globalization affect not only the economy, but also science and education areas. The global tendencies such as massification, diversification, internationalization, marketization occurring in the system of higher education, increasing competition between universities on both national and international level, force the institutions of higher education to seek new measures for improving the quality of performance. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and assess activities of institutions of higher education. The assessment of activity provides institution the information that could be used to improve the performance, to make informed decisions or plan strategy. The goal of Master Work is to benchmark the educational, scientific and methodological activities of faculties in Vilnius Pedagogical University. In order to achieve the objective were set following tasks: analysis of methods and models used for the assessment of performance in the public sector institutions; examination of target orientation, management and organizational structure of Vilnius Pedagogical University; implementation the benchmarking in faculties; presentation students' attitude towards faculties; offer recommendations to improve the performance of faculties. In Master thesis were used these methods: literature and document analysis, descriptive - analytical method, questionnaire, statistical and comparative analysis, graphical data display method. The benchmarking of faculties highlighted obvious differences in the number of teachers and students in separate departments, revealed disparities in research productivity and participation trends in exchange programs. The survey results revealed students' views of the faculties and the problems faced by students during studies. Master thesis may be useful for improving the performance of faculties in Vilnius Pedagogical University. Master thesis consists of introduction, four parts, conclusions and recommendations, 53 sources of literature, 65 pictures, 9 tables, 8 appendixices.
