In commemoration of the post-war deportations and resistance of the Lithuanian population, the losses, pain and bereavements they endured, and in appreciation of the great love of the deportees and political prisoners for their homeland, the year 2023 has been declared in Lithuania as the Year of the Deportees and Political Prisoners. This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the last mass imprisonment and deportation of the Lithuanian population to the East in 1953. It is also an important year for the Lithuanian Union of Political Prisoners and Deportees, which marks its 35th anniversary. |
