In this master's thesis examines the outstanding 19th century concert Gran Duo Concertante by the Italian composer and double bassist Giovanni Bottesini (1821-1889). This piece is a cornerstone of the double bass repertoire, demonstrating Bottesini's exceptional compositional skills and deep understanding of the instruments unique capabilities. This study delves into the historical context, musical structure, technical and interpretive challenges associated with the Gran Duo Concertante. It is important to be able to interpret melodies and the development of themes, emphasizing their emotional content and musical meaning. This means changing dynamics, variations in tempo, using legato, staccato techniques to create different moods and contrasts. After analyzing the recordings, it can be said that all interpretations showed a high level of technical mastery including intonation, sense of rhythm, mobility, transparency, emotional expression. |
