Abstract [eng] The dissertation studies the problems of the effect of climatic factors on the construction of roads. The main research objects are the climatic factors affecting road construction and the currently used data of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHS) and the Road Weather Information System (RWIS). The main aim of the dissertation is to make a climatic regioning of the territory of the Republic of Lithuania from the point of view of road construction. The main tasks solved in this work are as follows: data recording methods used in LHS stations and RWIS, review, analysis and comparison of the parameters of this data; creation of maps of climatic factors affecting road construction. The tasks were formulated with the consideration of variable climate of ours country and the climatic factors having a large effect on the roads. The dissertation consists introduction, four chapters, general conclusions, list of references, list of author’s publications on the topic of the dissertation and appendices. General characteristic of the dissertation discusses the topicality of the studied problem and the object of research, formulates the aim and tasks, describes research methodology, scientific novelty, practical value of results and the defended proposi-tions of the work. At the end the author’s publications and conference presentations on the topic of the dissertation are presented as well as the structure of dissertation. Chapter 1 gives the analysis of researches carried out by the scientists - developers of the science of climatology related to climate and its change and climatic regioning. The climate of Lithuania is described and the effect of climatic factors on road construction. Chapter 2 presents the analysis of climatic regioning methods, studies the climatic factors having the largest effect on road design, construction, repair and maintenance. Chapter 3 makes the analysis, evaluation and comparison of multiyear data of LHS (1961–1990) and RWIS (1999–2008). Chapter 4 presents examples of the subject maps made of the basis of RWIS data which is useful and informative for the users, especially for the road organizations and services. The regioning possibilities are evaluated from the point of view of road construction. 7 scientific articles were published on the topic of the dissertation: two – in a scientific journal abstracted in the Database of the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) and included into the list of ISI Web of Science, three – in the conference proceedings abstracted in the Thomson ISI Proceedings Database, one – in the reviewed proceedings of international conferences and one – in a science popularization publication. On the topic of the dissertation 5 presentations were made in the conferences held in Lithuania and other countries.
