Title: Opportunities for Sustainable Development Education in Preschool Institutions. Relevance of the study arises from the need to strengthen the application of sustainable development principles in the education system, starting with preschool education. Object of the study – sustainable development education in preschool institutions. Aim of the study – to analyze the opportunities for sustainable development education in preschool institutions. Objectives of the study: 1. To theoretically substantiate the concept of sustainable development education. 2. To discuss the possibilities for sustainable development in preschool education institutions. 3. To reveal the experiences of preschool education teachers related to sustainable development education in schools. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature and documents; empirical data collection methods: qualitative analysis of institutional documents and semi-structured interviews. The empirical research was conducted at the Vilnius nursery-kindergarten "Malūnėlis" to identify the practical possibilities and challenges of implementing sustainable development education. Main structure of the work: The master’s thesis consists of an introduction, analysis of scientific literature and documents, justification of research methodology, analysis and interpretation of research results, conclusions, recommendations, references, and appendices. Research results reveal that the implementation of sustainable development education in preschool education institutions encompasses various areas and aspects. Teachers successfully apply experiential learning methods, organize ecological and social projects, but face a lack of methodological resources, infrastructure, and funding. Leadership and community involvement are key factors promoting the dissemination of sustainable development education. The study highlighted the need to strengthen teachers’ competencies, modernize school infrastructure, and ensure the inclusion of sustainable development principles in the strategic documents of preschool education institutions. The study opens opportunities for further research and practical implementation of sustainable development education in Lithuania. |
