Abstract [eng] Work-life balance is an important topic in today's labour market. The rapidly changing economic situation, the increased competitive environment and the ever more rapid development of technology all have an impact on the work-life balance of every worker. The concept of work-life balance is defined differently by each author, and Greenhouse's concept of work-life integration or harmony was used in the study. The research paper examines the main challenges and opportunities that an employee faces in his/her daily environment. It identifies three main constructs of work-life balance challenges and opportunities - organisational culture, work-life organisation, and the impact of technology. The rapidly changing work environment poses challenges for employees in balancing professional and personal responsibilities, leading to psychological and physical disorders. However, it is important to note that, at the same time, the rapid development of technology, favourable employment policies and flexible working arrangements are opening new opportunities for work-life balance. In this context, the research question is what are the main challenges and opportunities for achieving work-life balance in the modern labour market? The study aim is to identify the challenges and opportunities for work-life balance in the modern work market. Objectives: 1. Explore the concept, challenges and opportunities of work-life balance, drawing on scientific sources. 2. Analyse how employees perceive their work-life balance. 3. Identify the challenges posed to the balance of work and personal life in the working environment. employees face in achieving work-life balance. 4. Identify the opportunities that determine the balance of work and personal life in the working environment. 5. Identify the relationship between work-life balance and the challenges and opportunities that arise in the work environment. Research methods: 1. A review of the academic literature to explore the concept and importance of work-life balance in the contemporary labour market. It analyses the challenges and opportunities of work-life balance. 2. The empirical study used a quantitative method of data collection: a questionnaire survey. The survey was carried out between March and April among working people in the Republic of Lithuania. 3. The results were analysed using MS Excel and SPSS software. Descriptive data analysis was carried out: expressions are presented as means and medians. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to find the normal distribution. For further data processing, was used the Wilcoxon one-sample test, and the Spearman correlation coefficient to analyse the relationship between variables. Results: 411 respondents took part in the survey, and only 162 respondents' answers were analysed further using the screening question on teleworking and hybrid working. The results show that respondents are neutral about their work-life balance. Most of the respondents agreed with the opportunity constructs, while they did not support the challenge constructs and disagreed with their statements. In summary, respondents perceived organisational culture and work organisation and the influence of technology more as opportunities, in the work and life balance as neutral. Structure: The second part presents the research strategy and methodology, the third part summarises and discusses the results, and the last part presents conclusions and suggestions.
