| Abstract [eng] |
Popular culture, as a mass social phenomenon in contemporary society, is characterised by its vitality and penetration into all facets of life, primarily due to the nature of mass communication. The nature of its dissemination has a significant impact on public consciousness, and the Web 2.0 paradigm enables users to create and distribute content without the involvement of official institutions, thus increasing the relevance of commercial content. In this context, popular culture is influencing political communication, contributing to the rise of populism in political discourse. For example, Donald Trump's election as US president in 2016 and 2024 showed how popular culture can be used to create and disseminate a political persona, utilising elements of entertainment, archetypes, and showmanship. This article aims to analyse the influence of popular culture on political communication, based on theoretical perspectives and empirical examples from the US and Lithuania. |
