| Abstract [eng] |
This master thesis aims to examine the visual narrative of Ingmar Bergman's films "Persona" (1966) and "Fanny and Alexander" (1982) and compare it with visual storytelling in Algimantas Puipa’s film "A woman and Her Four Men" (1984) and Šarūnas Bartas’ film "Peace to Us in Our Dreams" (2015). The narratological approach is used in order to analyze the main narrative elements (fabula, syuzhet) and explore the issues of space and time. The study of visual narrative focuses on narrative style. Semiotic, intertextual and philosophical perspectives help to distinguish the main images and define their meaning in the film narrative. The analysis shows that visual narrative differs in I. Bergman’s, A. Puipa’s and Š. Bartas’ films and reveals a unique style of the director. However, the comparative analysis allows to note various common features of the visual-narrative style in Swedish and Lithuanian films. |
