In the Master’s Thesis, there is considered the improvisational technique of the bass guitarist Jaco Pastorius, his solo ideas, rhythmic. As well as the development of a bass guitar. This performer demonstrated that this instrument could play not only bass parties but also perform great, melodious solo. Bass guitar is a fairly popular instrument, because it is the lifeblood of each ensemble, group, band that generates the pulse, vitality. Lots of different styles have been plaid using this instrument, several styles are described in this paper. The chosen theme is relevant because of the fact that there are very few literature sources about this instrument in Lithuania, as well as the amounts of methodology for bass guitar teachers are rather small, therefore the paper is relevant. The contribution of Jaco Pastorius to the perception of this instrument is very high, at that time, he changed the stereotypical thinking about the bass guitar. The research problem: the lack of literature in Lithuanian language. So far, any Jaco Pastorius's improvisational techniques have not been described in Lithuanian language. The objective of the research: to reveal, analyse the features of the improvisation of the bass guitar playing by Jaco Pastorius. The research tasks: to review the development of a bass guitar; to describe the main types of this instrument; to analyse Jaco Pastorius's playing technique, ideas of the improvisation harmony; to explore the new, original technique discovered by Jaco while playing the bass guitar. The master's thesis describes the development of the bass guitar from its appearance, there are described the types of bass guitars, described the biography of Jaco Pastorius. The second part of the work analyses the performance technique of the latter performer, his chosen harmonic ideas, rhythmic, and the discovered original playing technique. The main focus of the paper is on Jaco Pastorius, he was an innovator in the bass guitar world. |
