The main aim of this Master thesis is to exploit the potential of the biowaste sector by using circular economy principles for nutrients recovery, their return and energy saving. In the final Master's thesis, the results of researches made by different countries in the field of circular economy are reviewed and the criteria of the circular waste management system are formed. Identified biowaste stream which is not included in the biowaste management system, but can be easily separated at source and collected. Based on life cycle assessment software and multi-criteria methods, the best environmental practices in bio-waste management techniques were identified. 2016 biowaste management systems in the regions of Lithuania were estimated and indicator, which allows identification of poorly managed waste systems, for assessing the regional circularity was proposed. A conclusions and recommendations was adduced.
